Hi, I’m Nathan,
I have a background in Storytelling, Hospitality, Customer Support, Admin and a Bachelor of Arts.
I have Acting & Theatre Training, Copywriting Training, Digital Media Training and I have experience in Creating Content and running Social Media.
I know how to write informational conversational copy with SEO in mind, I know how to engage a community emotionally and make it fun.
I also know how to choose images that Grab Attention and I can edit videos in an entertaining and informational manner. Especially, Short videos.

In my April Blog, I touched on the YouTube Community Tab. But, now I’d like to expand on it as it can be very helpful for Small Businesses on YouTube.
The YouTube Community Tab is exactly that. It’s a Tab on your YouTube Channel for your Community.
It’s a place to Interact with, Build and Engage with your Community. Whether they be current clients/customers, future clients/customers or just simply someone with a YouTube account.
The YouTube Community Tab has 7 Main Options to Post:
- Text
- Image
- Image & Text
- Image Poll (My Favourite)
- Text Poll
- Quizzes
- Video
But there are many ways to use the YouTube Community Tab.
Here's 7 Ways Small Businesses Can Use The YouTube Community Tab:
1) Photos of Current Products or Services.
Small Businesses can use the Image Option simply by putting Still Images of Products or Services that your Business has. You can add some text with descriptions and a Call to Action (CTA) to a link or your website too.
Ideally you want to keep it brief but this is a great way to Showcase what your Business can offer on YouTube.
2) Previews of Promos/Specials or Special Events
Small Businesses can use the Image Option and the Video Option by Previewing something Special that the Business is going to do. It could be a snippet of a Longer Video. It could be a Short. It could simply be Still Images with some text. It could even be a competition.
The point is to make it the first time it’s shared in your Social Media. So, you give your Community a little Special YouTube heads up.
3) Image Polls
Image Polls are a Fun way to engage your Community and to gain quick feedback. You can use up to 4 Images in a square format and you have up to 36 Characters for words.
You can be business focused or maybe do something non business focused on a Friday for example. You can Mix them up. You can do whatever is appropriate for your Business.
You can do a Yes or No Poll, a Multiple Choice Poll, True or False Poll or whatever Poll you can think of with 2-4 Options.
Image Polls also look great on a Mobile Phone. They’re quick, easy and they’re Visually Appealing which can make it Fun for your Community!
4) Text Polls/Feedback
Text Polls like Image Polls can be Fun too. Like Image Polls you can have up to 2-4 Options.
But, unlike Image Polls you get up to 65 Characters. So, you can make your Options a bit more detailed.
These are great for gaining more specific feedback.
5) Quizzes
Quizzes are a Fun way to Challenge or Share some Knowledge with your Community about whatever Topic you like. Quizzes are just Text Only, but you have up to 500 Characters and Up to 4 Answers.
Ideally, you want to educate your Community on something that may not be Common Knowledge of your Business. But Like with Image Polls you can make these more Fun and do something not Business related like on a Friday.
6) Updates & News
Here you can simply post an Update or News for your Business that you want to or need to share with your Community. You can use an Image and Text, just Text, just an Image (With Text Part of the Image) or a Quick Video of you on or off camera talking about the News or Update.
Ideally you want to keep these quite Short and if needed with a CTA to your website or Video in the post. But if needed you have up to 10,000 Characters.
Which is more than enough to share News or an Update with your Community.
7) Behind the Scenes Images, Shorts or Long Form Videos
Here you can post something that gives your Community a chance to peek behind the curtain of your business. Naturally, you don’t want to give it all away.
But, you can give a taste of what your process is and or everyday activities are. You can use images and text, Snippets of Longer Videos or Shorts. Maybe even a Short of talking to the camera. Or even a Short behind the camera if you’re camera shy.
By allowing your Community to see behind the scenes, they can get to know you better. Which strengthens your connection with your Community.
These are only Some ways that you can Engage with, Build and Connect with your Community.
Ultimately, you want to have a place that your Community WANT to come to and Interact with. You also want to engage Discussion and answer comments from your Community within 24 hours so your Community are heard.
Sure, you can also have some of the Same Posts in other Social Media like Instagram and Facebook. But you want to take advantage of what YouTube can specifically offer in terms of your Community.
At the end of the day, you want Loyalty and Trust from your Community. YouTube’s Community Tab allows you to Build a Solid Foundation.
The Rest is up to your Quality of Products and or Services.

Instagram seems to be the GO-TO Social Media in the Food Industry as it’s a Snappy Visual Platform. But, so is YouTube!
Yes, YouTube is mostly videos and not mostly stills like Instagram is. But there are other benefits to attract new customers and keep your current customers engaged in YouTube.
1) Search
YouTube is a Search Engine so your Channel and content can be found there. But Google can also find your Channel and content. Which is a Cost-Effective form of advertising.
This means that you can use common Keywords for Organic SEO which your customers or future customers can use to find you rather than depending on ‘The Algorithm’. You can do this in your Descriptions, in your Titles and in your Hashtags.
Unlike Instagram, YouTube has a Higher Character limit in your Description (5000 Characters). So, you can pepper in more Keywords, links and write it in a conversational manner.
What’s important is YouTube allows people to find your business from your Choices of words. Especially, in your Descriptions.
2) Community
YouTube has a great engagement tool in the Community Tab. This is a separate part of your YouTube Channel where you have various ways to engage with, respond to and build your community.
You can do things like polls, you can open discussion with questions, you can preview a menu item with stills, you can show little snippets of a video, you can preview Shorts, Longer Videos or even have behind the scenes type stuff.
YouTube’s Community Tab allows you to do whatever is possible to engage with and build your community.
3) Shorts
Shorts are great for something fun, telling a little story, teasing a new menu item, doing little snippets very similar to Instagram, showing something that will draw customers or future customers to your business.
They don’t have to be Studio Quality, but they need to be Authentic, have good editing and above all be Short!
You can do up to 60 seconds with Third-party claimed content like a Song in it or up to 3 minutes without Third-party claimed content. But customers & future customers can lose attention quickly.
25 seconds is more than enough time to give a Taste of what your business is about. You can have a call to action to a phone number, an address, a link to your website, etc… You can even lead into a Longer Video should customers or future customers want to see more.
4) Longer Videos
You can do Longer Videos too. However long you want. Again, you don’t need Studio Quality but just like Shorts you need Authenticity and good editing.
Longer Videos give you the chance to maybe share something that you want to talk about for more than 3 minutes. Maybe show how something is made without giving away the Secrets in your recipe. Maybe you’d like to share the history of a recipe. Maybe tell a longer story. Maybe even do a Deep Dive into a Topic that you’re passionate about. Or even do a Special Live Stream of a Limited Event.
YouTube allows you to do whatever Long form content you want which is suitable for your business.
5) Adaptability
As mentioned above, YouTube has the option of BOTH Shorts & Longer Videos which gives you flexibility in your content. But, YouTube also has Adaptability.
YouTube gives you the ability to Change words in your Titles, in your Descriptions and your Hashtags. You can even Change your Thumbnails on Longer Videos.
Say you don’t like the words, you forgot a link, you want a different Thumbnail, you want to put in new Keywords, you want to try another title, etc...
YouTube allows you to Change these things and even experiment with what works and what doesn’t work.
At the end of the day, these are only just a few reasons why a YouTube Channel can be beneficial to Restaurants, Cafes and Food Trucks.
Yes, you’re busy running your business and you might not have time to run a YouTube Channel every day. But it is far better to have a YouTube Channel which has quality over quantity when it comes to content.
Fun Community Posts, responses to comments, consistent, well edited, authentic Long Videos or Shorts with strategic & conversational Keywords goes a long way. Especially, in connecting with your customers and future customers.
Ultimately, you want your business to be found, you want your customers to be engaged and keep coming back. YouTube will help with that and then some.
